The Boylston Beat – 11/13

Some quick hits from Boston as I sit at my desk pondering whether Giancarlo Stanton would hit 80 or 90 homers at Fenway Park next season:

  • The Patriots are back. Despite early season woes and the annual calls for the demise of this centuries preeminent dynasty, the Pats again look to be the toast of the League following last night’s beatdown in Denver. Belichick’s mantra has always been for his team to play their best football at the end of the year, and all signs are pointing in that direction after a restful bye week (see: Gisele on beach), 5-straight wins, and Brady overcoming his inner demons that seemingly present only at Mile High Stadium. Special teams, kids, special teams.
  • Celtics keep on cruising, and this time without Kyrie. Winners of 12-straight, Thursday nights showdown with Golden State in Boston is looking like the early-season can’t miss game. If the C’s can best the Dubs (tall task, but Stevens has had success vs. them), it looks like the sky is the limit with a Charmin-soft schedule leading them into December.
  • Not much to say on the Bruins, who continue to look lost while dealing with injuries to what feels like their entire core. Stay tuned for news of a Bruins blogger to help me pick up the slack while I’m dealing with league-leaders in the Pats and C’s.
  • The hot stove is never not scorching with Dave Dombrowski heading up a team’s baseball ops and that seems to be the case this Winter with the Sox already engaging the Marlins on megastar Giancarlo Stanton. More to come from the GM meetings this week but if we learned anything last off-season, Dombrowski usually gets his guy…

Now back to my 6th cup of coffee after a late Sunday Night Football showdown in Denver…
